Why was Orientation helpful? |
How did your Link Leader help you? |
"As a freshman, link crew helped me figure out how to get around the school and find my classes which I would have highly struggled with without my link leaders! I also was able to talk to my link leaders about what I should expect for each class which helped me come prepared and feel more relaxed!"
- Student from the Class of 2024 "Before school started, my mentors familiarized me with the school's layout. [Freshmen Orientation] helped me understand some high school expectations."
- Student from the Class of 2023 What was your Link experience like?"Personally, my Link experience was very beneficial because I was able to see what the school has to offer by seeing all of the sports and clubs as well as some of the upperclassmen I would be seeing in the hallways...The freshmen need leaders who are responsible and show leadership."

"They helped me feel less scared about high school cause they told me about the classes I was taking and how everything worked in high school!"
- Student from the Class of 2023 How did the Link experience help you?"Link crew helped me as a freshman because it helped introduce me to some upperclassman and make some new friendships. It also made me more familiar with the school and school events so it was easy for me to know what was going on with my school, I could also help my friends if they had any questions. And lastly it helped me want to be more involved with my school."

What Every 9th Grader Should Know!
Our Link Crew Leaders were in your shoes just a few years ago. These are hints from them so that within a few weeks, you'll be pros at high school!
- Get involved in the school (sports, clubs, etc). Try new things!
- Freshman year DOES count academically. Try hard and do your homework.
- Our teachers are really helpful! Never be afraid to ask questions or ask for assistance. They are very supportive, and they are here to help you learn and grow.
- Know the locations of the bathrooms. They are different in each wing. In B wing, the girls is on the left and the boys is on the right, and it is the opposite in A wing.
- The school is smaller than you think. After the first week you are at SLHS, you will realize where everything is and that upperclassmen are not scary.
- Use Skyward and Google Classroom to stay organized and on top of your academic progress. In Skyward you can find other information such as your bus and locker information. In Google Classroom, you can find your assignments and other important documents.
- Stay Organized. Use your planner or an app. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!
- Be aware of school rules and teacher expectations. Be respectful and on-time, even in a remote or virtual setting, and you won’t have to worry.
- Lunch is a great time for a break. Find friends to sit with or even make new friends.
- Take electives you are interested in. Don’t always follow your friends. Electives are a great place to meet new people.
- Be smart and respectful with what you post on social media.
- Enjoy high school! It goes by fast!
